Together we can make a difference.
Academics
GHS uses the Springfield Public Schools curriculum, focusing on power standards. GHS is on a seven period day so students see their teachers every day. Classes are 50 minutes long with a 5-minute passing period, which gives students several small breaks throughout their day.
Students meet with their counselor to develop an individual student graduation plan that meets their goals. GHS students are eligible to participate in Brattain Campus Graduation Ceremonies once completing their graduation requirements.
There are several opportunities for students to make-up credits if they are behind through online, night school, work study, etc.
CTE: Cosmetology Academy
The comprehensive GHS Cosmetology Academy is for students interested in a career in cosmetology that includes hair design, barbering, esthetics and nail technology. This exciting and creative program offers students the opportunity to engage in the art and science of cosmetology with no cost to them, while satisfying high school graduation requirements.
Gateways Cosmetology Academy uses a competency based format, which provides the same curricular content that is taught in post-secondary clock hour programs. Students attend theory and lab classes, eventually using the knowledge they have gained to perform services in hair design, barbering, esthetics and nail technology on mannequins, models and clients. Learn more about our program and how to enroll in the GHS Cosmetology Academy.
Grading at GHS
GHS believes and utilizes equitable grading practices. Students have opportunities to redo-retake assignments, quizzes, and tests. There are no late penalties for later work, but there are deadlines that allow staff enough time to grade before the end of the term. Students are not graded on attendance.
We encourage you to check your students' progress in their classes often. Below is a link you can use to access your child's grades, current schedule, attendance, and more through ParentVue.
