Our Guide and Tips for e-Learning Success

Online Learning is Hard! You must have a high level of self-discipline and be able to manage yourself in order to stay on-track to finish your course work and be successful. It is not Facebook, video games, or surfing the Internet. It is hard work. Below is a number of tips and tricks to help you stay on track.

Flexible Scheduling
You are able to work on your coursework 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can work on weekends, holidays, and school vacations.

Need to Login and Work Daily
Students need to stay on track to finish at the 9-week end date. You can work ahead.

All Lessons Are Online
Most everything you need is provided through the PEAK Learning Management System for middle school and high school. Elementary students will receive supplies via UPS.

Email is the Primary Means of Communication
Check your email several times each day. Sometimes time sensitive information is emailed to the student. Respond within 24 hrs.

Online Requires Attendance Reporting
Students must make two (2) teacher contacts every week to be present for five (5) days and the teacher determines if the student is making progress. Contact can be by email, phone call, Google Forms or Zoom meetings.

Minimum Work Required
Set up a Routine for when you are going to work and where you are going to work. Stick to that routine as much as possible. Psychologically you will focus better with a routine.Students will receive a progress calendar for each course they take from an SPS Online teacher. Students are expected to put in 4-6 hours a day working on their coursework. At a minimum, students are required to progress through their courses at the pace laid out in the progress calendar in order to complete the courses in the 9-week period.

In order to remain scheduled in a course, the student must make progress in his/her course. This may be measured by increases in the student's cumulative grade.

Set Up a Routine
Set up a Routine for when you are going to work and where you are going to work. Stick to that routine as much as possible. Psychologically you will focus better with a routine.

Take Notes
Take notes on the text you read or videos you watch just like you would in class.

Advocate for Yourself
Ask questions if you don’t understand. Stay in contact with your online teachers at all times.
